Zachrilege Cast #214 — John C. Snider

March 5, 2020

He started American Freethought Podcast in 2007. There must have been five podcasts at the time so I’d say a lot has changed in the interim. We’re almost 300 episodes in and John’s interviewed a ton of atheist leaders, authors, and just plain awesome people. He recently went to a Baptist congregation to talk about being a nonbeliever, and that’s the kind of dialogue we don’t get a lot these days. Let’s hear about the Atlanta community, getting out of being a Baptist, and making a show on his own. I’ll be a guest on his podcast shortly.

Zachrilege Cast #213 — Ladies of Left at the Valley

February 25, 2020

Sure, everyone wants to talk to that hunk Kevin Francis, but what about the ladies of Left at the Valley? I had on Nancy, Kirstin and Kristina to talk about how they got on the show, the divvying up of segments, religious backgrounds and getting up early to record a podcast.

Zachrilege Cast #212 — Dr. Marisa Richmond

February 12, 2020

Dr. Marisa Richmond is a professor of history and gender studies at Middle Tennessee State University. She's also an activist, starting the Tennessee Transgender Political Coalition, a winner of Davidson County Democratic Woman of the year, the first black trans woman to be elected to a delegate to a major party convention. If you want to get in politics or figure out how to get someone really good at trivia on your side, talk to her. We talked about getting politically involved, the current state of the Democratic party, and cats.

Zachrilege Cast #211 — Nick Fish

Zachrilege Cast #211 — Nick Fish

February 5, 2020

American Atheists had a tough choice to make in September of 2018 when looking for a new President. They went for an internal candidate who had been working in activism/secularism/politics for the last decade in Nick Fish. He's moved around the country to be where the activism is. He's settled into New Jersey but will be in Phoenix this April at the American Atheists national convention. It's the easiest convention to remember when it is. Easter weekend. See, atheists usually have not much to do that weekend other than watch Christians perform pagan fertility rites. In any case, the conference is coming up so if you can attend, you should. If you can't make it, you always can get involved because AA is very much a volunteer organization and if you haven't heard, the evangelicals are going wild in state legislatures.

Zachrilege Cast #210 — Dave Warnock

January 24, 2020

Dave had already shed his religious upbringing, losing a community and a lot of his family, before he got his ALS diagnosis last February. Ever since he’s been Dying Out Loud. We talked about his superhero origin story, how to live when you are dying, traveling, and building new community.

Zachrilege Cast #209z — solo

January 6, 2020

I know it looks like I did the same number twice but during the recording of part one of this week's show, I realized that I skipped one so to ensure that I have actually done 209 this will be 209z. I talked about my 2019 guests, some of the issues of the year, what we're going to see in 2020, and I reviewed a book and a TV show so spoilers there.

Zachrilege Cast #209 — Chris Mallard

Zachrilege Cast #209 — Chris Mallard

January 1, 2020

The Daily Atheist started ten months ago as one man’s quest to “content” as often as possible about atheism, politics, and gravy. Chris Mallard will explain whether he painted himself in a corner content-wise by calling himself The Daily Atheist. We talk about his atheism origin story, taking on a Christian apologist in a recent The Right to Reason that seemed like a quaint throwback, and how one decides to learn to play the cello.

Zachrilege Cast #208 — The Life After

Zachrilege Cast #208 — The Life After

December 13, 2019

Escaping from religion is one thing. Now that Brady and Chuck found not religion, what were they to do? They started a podcast. They preach to the ex-vangical choir, bringing on guests who help figure out how to navigate life after faith. We talked about trauma, how to recognize it and deal with it, and upcoming conference talking about that very subject, and of course dad jokes.

Zachrilege Cast #207 — Marie D’Elephant

Zachrilege Cast #207 — Marie D’Elephant

November 29, 2019

Start with a base of a Christian upbringing, add a pinch of purity culture and a heaping helping of missionary work and baste it all with not believing any of that shit now and you’re getting an idea of Marie D’Elephant’s upbringing. She got out of religion, found her own way and then quit a pretty decent job to travel around the country/world with Dave Warnock. When you think everyone is autonomous, you start with yourself.

Zachrilege Cast #206 — Krista Cox

Zachrilege Cast #206 — Krista Cox

November 21, 2019

I couldn’t go one episode without discussing the atheist Voldemort -- I kid, after all I can still say the name of David Silverman three times without summoning an army of MRAs. Krista wrote an article about the history of how the atheist community got where it is today. The thing is, it’s totally ok to have smaller communities if need be. When did she decide to write it? What was the process like? How many times did she have to trash the whole thing? Which celebrity kitty would she adopt. Good thing there’s an interviewer here to take care of the important work.

“If you need me I'll be in my bedroom fellating intersectionality.”
